Yorkshire Monks Make Lancashire Pilgrimage

Following discussions over a £500k crowdfunding venture, Leeds based Northern Monk Brew Co. are eyeing up a site for a second taproom, either in Manchester or London.  Starting on a shoestring budget in 2013, the brewery now export to over 20 countries.

Odd Folk

Northern Quarter game changer Odd Bar may have only been closed down for a matter of days, however the team behind Matt and Phred's and Stage & Radio are set to reopen it in April as a vegan café bar called Folk & Soul with talented chef Adam Regan, who was originally due to work on their now ditched Goose Fat & Wild Garlic fine dining opening in Ancoats.

Up All Night

Take That's Howard Donald is back to doing what he loves best! After travelling around and hitting dance hotspots like Ministry Of Sound and Pacha, he's returning home to play a night of ground-breaking House and Techno at the Lazy Lizard on Good Friday 30th March 2018.

Return Of The Dog Tag

Black Dog Ballroom NQ has announced the re-opening of its private ballroom, as ‘The Jameson Ballroom’ on Friday 23rd February 2018, with the return of the highly sought after ‘Dog Tags’, 100 of which will be given away to the first 100 people visiting it on the night.

The hidden speakeasy bar under the stairs has undergone extensive refurbishment in collaboration with Jameson Irish Whiskey and will be open every Friday and Saturday to Dog Tag holders, who can also queue jump and get free entry to Black Dog Ballroom at all times. [more info]

Lily's Bar
Foodinate With Lily's Bar

New Booth Street basement bar Lily's have teamed up with Foodinate to fight food poverty. On Tuesday 6th March, they launch a brand new initiative in their upstairs 1761 restaurant, which will see them donate a nourishing meal to poverty charity, The Mustard Tree, for every dish sold on Mondays and Tuesdays.

You can dine in harmony, knowing that whilst eating from their fantastic locally-influenced menu, you're also feeding a fellow Mancunian who is homeless or trapped in poverty. [more info]


Deadpool Gin
Ryan Reynolds is the latest A-list Hollywood star to enter the booze industry, purchasing the popular Aviation Gin company. The Deadpool actor has stated his intention to play an active role in the creative direction of the business, however he has joked "I don't know whose idea it was to allow me into the gin business, but I can assure you, there are smarter, more reasonable people in charge".

Film Star Fizz
Dita Grappolo, a company ran by young Manchester based filmmakers, Greg Tomaszewicz and Marco Fanton, have struck a deal to import sugar free Prosecco Al Canevon Brut Zero from Venice.  Billed as a 'true competitor to Champagne', with just 1,000 bottles of its 12,000 annual supply making it to Manchester, it has been labelled 'the most exclusive Prosecco in the UK'.

Football's No.7

Cafe Football have teamed up with Manchester's SEVEN BRO7HERS brewery, for a prolific partnership with their own world class beer and burger pairing, available throughout March at both Cafe Football National Football Museum and Cafe Football Old Trafford.

For just £10, the signature Hometeam Burger, a dry aged beef, cheddar, lettuce and tomato burger, served with burger sauce and onion relish, complete with fries and a gherkin, is paired with SEVEN BRO7HERS‘ bottled EPA, a classic English Pale Ale with a toasted malt base and floral, green tea undertones. Craft & Cheese - Chorlton & City Centre
Chorlton bar, Brewski, are heading into the city centre, opening in the former 1847 vegetarian restaurant unit just off Mosley Street on 5th March 2018. They specialise in craft beers, G&T pots, Hard Shakes, signature cocktails and a food offering of poutine (chips, cheese and gravy), raclette (melted cheese), American Brunch, gourmet pizzas and Mac & Cheese.

Culinary Breakthrough at Grafene

Ben Mounsey, former Head Chef at 2 AA Rosette The Lawns at Thornton Hall, and previously sous chef at Michelin Star restaurant Fraiche in Birkenhead, has taken the culinary helm at Grafene

To run alongside his new menu, a cocktail collection featuring newly-crafted drinkswith homemade ingredients has been introduced featuring drinks like The Spritz, Mint Buttermilk Martini, The Grafene Snapper and The Mancunian, a mix of bourbon whiskey, homemade cinnamon and nutmeg sugar, dark chocolate liqueur, and blazed sugar on cinnamon bark. The quintessential English gentleman of magic, Alexander Wells, "the last magician of the Golden Age" returns after three years as Head Magician at the House of Illusion magic theatre in Salou, Tarragona, Spain.

He will host a night of conjuring and cocktails on the first Tuesday of every month at Northern Quarter 1920s speakeasy The Fitzgerald, starting on the 6th March 2018. [more info]

There is growing concern within the alcohol industry about calls from the Royal Society for Public Health for the Government to introduce calorie counts and tobacco packet style graphic health warnings to bottles of booze. Can we expect to see photos of diseased livers on bottles of Chateau Haut-Brion, bowel and breast cancer warnings on Hennessy Ellipse bottles, traffic light calorie coding on bottles of Bowmore Black Label and plain white packaged cans of Brew Dog Punk IPA?

Manchester 235 casino's Icon VIP Lounge has been bestowed the honour of being named "Casino VIP Room of the Year" at the International Gaming Awards.  After several late nights in there ourselves, it's an award which we can definitely endorse wholeheartedly.

Mass market Bourbon big hitter Jack Daniels have launched their own coffee, available in both instant and whole bean, the brew is non-alcoholic, and is simply infused with the classic JD flavour.  Personally, I'd just put a nip of the good stuff in your Nescafe, but to each their own.

Cafe Football Old Trafford and Cafe Football National Football Museum will both be showing all the action from the Six Nations Rugby Finals, each weekend from now until Saturday 17th March, with England approaching the championships as two times defending champions.

Up In The Clouds

Manchester brewery, Cloudwater Brew Co., have scooped an impressive 2nd place in the RateBeer World's Best Brewery Awards, up from 5th last year.  You can taste their fantastic brews at their brewery tap Barrel Store on Sheffield Street, behind Piccadilly Station.


Eastenders Gin
If you like your drink served in a miserable environment with a heated argument, failed romance and clipped by a hitman's bullet, then you're in luck as Eastenders actor Adam Woodyatt (who plays Ian Beale) has released his own gin, named Neat.  It was showcased in Manchester at gin temple Atlas Bar, which beats the Queen Vic for sure.

The Cream Of Manchester, 1828

The Lowry Hotel in association with Maggie’s Cancer Support Centre will be hosting a unique costume ball on Saturday 10th March 2018, with a three course dinner, entertainment, singer, DJ, disco, raffle and auction, to raise funds for people affected by cancer. 

The event is based on one of the region’s most glamorous historic events, when, in 1828, generous philanthropists of the North West attended an extravagant costume ball to raise money for local charity. Prominent citizens at the 19th Century celebration included the Lord Mayor, MPs, industrial magnates and the Home Secretary Robert Peel. The scene was captured by artist Arthur Perigal and is a social record of the ‘cream of Manchester society’.  [more info]
