The Modern Bar & Restaurant
One of the most iconic buildings in Manchester is now home to a new contemporary bar and restaurant aptly named, The Modern. Renowned for its forward thinking and innovative approach to promoting modern city life, Urbis provides the perfect backdrop for this much anticipated new bar and restaurant.

The Modern is a sleek new drinking and dining concept that opened early December 2007. Located on levels 5 & 6 of Urbis the venue offers the ultimate drinking and dining experience with the added attraction of stunning panoramic views across the city.

The restaurant has a capacity to seat 72 diners and the menu focuses on the fundamental principles of seasonal and regional produce. All produce is locally sourced wherever possible, provenance is especially important and only suppliers supporting good husbandry techniques and full tractability are used. The Head Chef, Paul Faulkner (previously of the OXO Tower) has put together an exemplary menu including dishes such as: Pressed Terrine of Cheshire Pheasant, Roast Glen Fyne Venison and Roasted Scottish Monkfish. Pre-theatre and special lunchtime menus are also available.
Adam McLean, General Manager says, "We are very excited about opening The Modern, to have such an inspirational space to work with has given us a strong incentive to make this the most exciting eating and drinking venue in Manchester. We are going to create a venue that will intrigue and entice a new customer base focussing on using the best local produce in the restaurant and creating an aspirational drinking den in the sky."
The bar in the Modern has the capacity to hold 60 guests and offers its customers exceptional cocktails executed by some of the best barpersons in the city. The bar will be open from 12pm until 12am Sunday to Thursday (and until 2am Friday and Saturday) and is a space that transforms from a casual, comfortable daytime venue to a sophisticated, decadent destination adding a new dimension to Manchester’s social scene.

The Modern Restaurant Reviews
The Modern at Urbis Manchester
"The automatic door slid open and a sign indicated to take the lift to the 6th floor. It was all very James Bond. Secret doorways, instructions to follow, lonely elevators and chic 60's style signage. The decor is wonderful, very stylish, plain yet modern, well spaced tables and intimate lighting which is complimented by the wonderful view. We opted for the table overlooking the big wheel and cathedral.

The menu is impressive - a great collection of locally influenced dishes at a reasonable price. The Grilled Goosnagh Maize Fed Chicken was the best I've tasted outside of a Michelin star restaurant in the UK. Even with the side order of Fat Cut Chips this was outstanding value for money. With pre-theatre menu's offering even better value for money, you have to applaud Urbis for moving The Modern away from the snobbery associated with it's predecessor, Le Mont.

The Modern has the advantage of being next to the MEN Arena, the main shopping area, The Printworks and the Royal Exchange Theatre. It is certainly one of the best dining destinations in Manchester!" - RestaurantsOfManchester.com (Dec 2007)
