Sams Chop House Restaurant Manchester - reader comments

"It is years since I've had a better quality home made Steak & Kidney Pudding, it brought back a lot of taste bud memories and accompanied by an excellent South African Shiraz. Now the winter months are here I know where I'll be when visiting Manchester around lunch time" - John L Kind, Cheadle 31/10/07 (visited on a friday lunchtime)

Trusted Reviewer "Whilst Sam's is certainly my favourite pub in Manchester, I'm always let down by their food. Whenever I'm entertaining foreign guests, I always bring them here for a real taste of Manchester. OK, English food doesn't have the best reputation abroad and I'm always on a mission to prove to my European friends how great it can be. On my past 3 visits to Sam's, the Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding has been an expensive, big disappointment - crispy and overcooked with rubbery beef left out on the Carvery for too long. I was so let down the time before last, I decided to drive my most recent guests the hour or so drive to the Fountaine Inn in Linton in the Yorkshire Dales for a superior Pudding, at half the price. You needn't go so far - in fact Bacchanalia next door, serve cheaper, better quality Yorkshire's than my last 3 at Sam's. I can recommend the Steak & Kidney Pudding but it's quite expensive - you'd be better finding a traditional chippie and having a Holland's. On the flip side, the decor is wonderful - very traditional, you almost feel like you're going back in time and the drinks are superb. I'll certainly keep revisiting Sam's but unless they up their game, they may lose a 'hopeful' regular." - Matthew, Manchester 30/9/07 (visited on a sunday lunchtime)
