Beluga Manchester - reader comments

Trusted Reviewer "We've visited the excellent bar at Beluga many times, and also at it's predecessor, Citrus. For some reason, we've never ventured downstairs to try their restaurant though. When a restaurant scores highly with our reviewers, especially our Trusted Reviewers at that, we're normally straight on the phone to book a table. The fact they took Hi-Life was even better, 2 meals for the price of 1... here we come!

If you're familiar with the small bar at Beluga you'll be in for a big surprise when you enter the restaurant down the stairs. It's a lot bigger than you'd expect and extremely luxurious. There's an open kitchen and some of the most stylish eating booths in Manchester. Our waiter, Dion, was very friendly and helped us through the 2 menus, we opted for dishes from both the a la carte and lunch menus together with two of the extra daily specials he informed us about.

The Wild Mushroom & Bamboo Risotto starter arrived in a stylish but small triangular bowl, served with a Tomato Pancetta - it tasted fantastic but was a tad expensve at £5.95. The Steak Sandwich was also very nice; cooked to perfection and covered in a healthy portion of mushrooms (£8.95). The Seasonal Sausage, served with delicious mashed potato and gravy was also worthy of note and excellent value at £7.45.

All in all, the previous reviews are spot on. Beluga boasts an excellent restaurant deserving of a reputation other than just the bar. There are few restaurants in town offering such lavish surroundings and serving equally as good food. It comes highly recommended!" - Manchester Restaurants, 28/11/07 (visited on a Monday afternoon)

Trusted Reviewer "We ate about 2pm when it was very quiet. I took the Soup of the Day which was stilton & broccoli. This was fine but a little too flavoursome for my taste, but the standard of how it was cooked was good. The main course was Sausage & Mash, which was very well cooked and really enjoyable. It was very much a hunger-quencher and exactly what the doctor ordered. The restaurant itself was well decorated and I will definately go back!" - paul, bolton 28/11/07 (visited on a friday afternoon)

Trusted Reviewer "Visited Beluga Saturday tea time after Christmas shopping with my wife and our two children. At Beluga, there is a bar on the ground floor and we were offered a free bottle of Russian lager that was much need after trawling around the shops. The restaurant is in the basement and is very smart.

I had the Black Pudding starter, which was delicious. My wife had Brushetta and the kids had Garlic Bread. All arrived quickly and was well presented.

The boys had the pasta main course, which was tasty, but I found it a little bit too rich. No complaints from my 10 year old though. My wife had the pork and it was cooked to perfection. Our only complaint was that the duck breast chosen by my daughter was tough, but still tasty.

We were all made to feel welcome and the level of service was good. The food was cooked well and served on warm plates! Good value for money, the bill came to £77.00 for two courses and two rounds of drinks for the four of us. Great value for the city centre!"

"Nice to get proper sized portions for once in a posh restaurant!" - kelly morrissey, wilmslow 17/9/07 (visited on a Thurs evening)

"I visited this restaurant using my Hi Life card. Unlike most restaurants on a Saturday evening they allowed me my concession. The food was absolutely delicious and the setting was beautiful and very relaxed. The waitress was really nice and myself and friend had a lovely evening" - angela wroe, manchester 14/6/07 (visited on a Saturday evening)
