Bacchanalia
Restaurant Manchester - reader comments |
"This
was my second visit and both times the food has been lovely!
Never heard any complaints from anyone about it. The waitresses
are lovely and happy. Maybe the portion sizes are
a little small, and you have to order your veg separately
which bumps the price of your meal up. But overall, the food
is fab so I will be going back here for my 3rd, 4th, 5th
visit."

"Despite
having booked a table we were left standing at the door for over 20
minutes. Clearly this is an issue as other angry customers kept coming
over to the desk and asking how much longer their table would be.
When we got upstairs into the dining room there were tables available.
We were seated with a menu but no waitress came near us for
over 10 minutes. Our wine took a further 10 minutes to arrive
and was badly corked. The wine waiter didn't know what that meant.
Over 45 minutes later our starters arrived. I received a dessert dish
of cold congealed mussels most of which hadn't opened when cooked.
My husband received a tiny bowl of salad with 3 miserable looking
pieces of cold battered squid on top. The waitress apologised and
told us that lots of people complain. We called for the manager and
left without eating. This was my birthday and they ruined it for me.
The place was shabby, dirty and has an aura of people just
not caring about their customers or their food. Terrible
experience and the only time in my life I have walked out
of a restaurant and we eat out every week."

"This
was our first visit to Bacchanalia. We chose this restaurant to celebrate
our friend's birthday with a nice meal. On arrival, we were greeted
at the door and led to a table in the cocktail bar for pre-dinner
drinks. All of the staff in both the cocktail bar and the
restaurant were very friendly and attentive. The bar and
restaurant is tasteful, clean and well presented.
I have no complaints with the staff and the restaurant itself. My
disappointment was with the food which I'm afraid failed
to live up to other reviews that I've read. All our meals were, well
for want of a better description, burnt offerings. My starter was
the Black Pudding Fritter which was greasy and overcooked
to the point where the black pudding was completely dry and crunchy.
My main course of Red Mullet Fillets were like a couple of deep fried
gold fish, dry, salty and chewy. My Wife's and friends
meal's were of a similar standard and they too were as disappointed
as me. The portion size was also disappointing. Even
after 3 courses, we were all hungry again within 30 minutes of leaving.
I'm not sure if the chef was simply having a bad day or not but I
don't think I would be prepared to go back to find out."

"I
thought the restaurant was maybe for posh people but it wasn't, there
was a variety of different people in there! Our food was served to
us really quick but that's because the restaurant wasn't that busy
at 6:30pm. The food was lovely and the waitresses
were very well mannered and polite! I would definitely visit
this restaurant again and recommend it to friends and family."

"This
restaurant deserves to be in Restaurants Of Manchester's Top 10 restaurant
list. The Valentine menu was amazing; the waiters/waitresses
are attentive and friendly. I can't fault the place.
I will return back to Bacchanalia in the near future. It was the perfect
way to end Valentines Day"

"All
in all a very good experience. From the greeting
upon arrival, attention to service without being obtrusive, friendly
and polite staff. The food was well cooked &
seasoned, presentation was just right without being over
the top. We got a feel that the management and staff actually cares
about what they doing... Well worth returning just for that!"

"I
went for the first time to this restaurant last week and had a fantastic
meal with my best friend. We had seen it on Restaurants Of
Manchester and had high expectations as it was supposedly in the Top
10 for Manchester restaurants... it definitely deserves to be there!
We both had starters, mains, desserts, and coffees and every
course was wonderful. You could tell the food was fresh,
especially the Rainbow Trout that I chose, and it was very well cooked.
The service was attentive and friendly from the minute
we walked through the door... very impressive. I've
been to many restaurants but this one will definitely leave
an impression on me for a long time. We've already recommended
it to a number of friends!!!"

"Food
was nice. Our waiter was friendly. Felt
a bit uncomfortable when we went in as the staff were just stood around.
No pressure to move after our meal - we were able to chat after having
our plates cleared without ordering extra things. Was a pleasant,
attractive upper dining area. Worth a visit"

"One
of Manchester's best kept secrets. The lively wine bar downstairs
is always busy but many people just aren't aware of the brilliant
restaurant upstairs. The menu is well-balanced and sensibly
priced and includes something for everybody, from
top quality pasta and veggie dishes to excellent meat and fish. The
staff are really friendly and professional and it
didn't surprise me that on the night of our visit the staff
from another big Manchester restaurant were having their Christmas
party at Bacchanalia."

"I'm
so glad you Bacchanalia appears in Restaurants Of Manchester's Top
10. I love the place - whilst I've been there many times before, it
was my first visit for Sunday lunch. I've given up on Sam's Chop House
next door after too many disappointing experiences, each time 'wanting'
to give them another chance purely through Mancunian loyalty. The
Roast Lamb and Yorkshire Pudding at Bacchanalia was cooked
to perfection, the huge cut of lamb pink and tender and far
superior to that I'd experienced lately at their next door neighbour's.
It was also a damn site cheaper too at only £9.95 (Sam's is
£16.95). I also got a further 20% off my bill with the Restaurants
Of Manchester voucher. The Greek Loukoumades for dessert were also
good value at just £4.75. We were sat in the downstairs bar
area, whilst comfy, it's not as good as the main
restaurant upstairs and service could have been better
on this visit - but overall, superb value for superb food.
I'll certainly be returning for my next Sunday roast."

"Wanted
to go to Room for this celebration but could not be accommodated until
after 9:30pm. Took a chance on Bachanalia and what a find!
All our friends thought this was great and all would
be returning in the near future"

"We
ate early evening when the restaurant was quiet although the bar area
was packed and very lively. We ordered the Starter Platter which I
would highly recommend: cold meats, olives, bread, humus and chutney.
Very tasty, good value and a great dish to share
between you. For main course we had pasta, which was absolutely
spot-on. Our third or fourth visit and we've never been disappointed
yet"

"Could
have been better. Somethings they got right.. service
was good, but the starter and dessert were disappointing.
The additional vegetable portions were minute and
the tables had streak marks. Would I recommend to others? probably
not. I went because the reviews I read (below) were complimentary.
On this occasion I would say to other diners have low expectations
and you will not leave too disappointed"

"Excellent
food and service, very good value for money,
didn't feel ripped off, not too noisy and quite relaxed,
good menu to choose from as well, staff were very friendly,
attentive and smiling, also manager looked as busy as staff, which
is a good thing"

"We
told the waiter that we were in a hurry, pre-concert, and he was superb.
Even though it was incredibly busy, he pushed our order through very
quickly, with a smile and a joke along the way. Top notch!
Food excellent - will definitely return. The only slight
criticism is that the waiter didn't use a notepad
for our order and, very honestly, admitted to us that the delay in
the delivery of our Mediterranean starter platter was down to the
fact that he had nearly forgotten it"

"It's
amazing how many excellent restaurants there are on this tiny street.
And it was because the likes of Chaophraya, Le Petit Blanc and Sam's
Chop House were all full we ventured into Bacchanalia by default.
I was so glad we did! I have to say, the Lamb Rack, given a Mediterranean
twist with its honey and sultana crust, was the best dish
I've ever had in a Manchester restaurant - an incredible
statement as I've ate in all the celebrated ones like The French,
The Lowry, Choice, Chaophraya, Piccolino's, Yang Sing and Akbar's.
I really wish I'd visited here for food before - I've been many times
for cocktails but just presumed the menu was of bar food quality.
How wrong was I. Very highly recommended!"
