"The
automatic door slid open and a sign indicated to take the lift to
the 6th floor. It was all very James Bond. Secret doorways, instructions
to follow, lonely elevators and chic 60's style signage. The decor
is wonderful, very stylish, plain yet modern, well spaced tables
and intimate lighting which is complimented by the wonderful view.
We opted for the table overlooking the big wheel and cathedral.
The menu is impressive
- a great collection of locally influenced dishes at a reasonable
price. The Grilled Goosnagh Maize Fed Chicken was the best I've
tasted outside of a Michelin star restaurant in the UK. Even with
the side order of Fat Cut Chips this was outstanding value for
money. With
pre-theatre menu's offering even better value for money, you have
to applaud Urbis for moving The Modern away from the snobbery
associated with it's predecessor, Le Mont.
The Modern has the
advantage of being next to the MEN Arena, the main shopping area,
The Printworks and the Royal Exchange Theatre. It is certainly
one of the best dining destinations in Manchester!"
