Albert's
Shed Manchester - reader comments

"Had
previously visited this restaurant and had good experiences.
On this occasion very disappointed with the
food. The portion size of the Black Pudding
Ravioli for the price was disappointing. Scallop Grantin
had an over kill of lemon flavour. The Lobster Linguini
had two large pieces of shell and the peppercorn sauce
had to be returned as it was cold. Overall very
disappointing"

"We
were a group of 12 and had pre booked, they got rather
annoyed that we had to wait 20 mins for three late arrivers.
We were told that the next party were eating at 9.30pm.
We felt this was very very rude. Also
we were not even offered the full menu. which we found
out later when we saw someone ordering lobster and realised
it was not on the menu we were presented with. On this
basis the restaurant has not impressed
any of us"

"Being
based next to Albert's Shed restaurant in Castlefield,
we get to see the hundreds of customers who flock
there on a daily basis. We've obviously also been
customers ourselves on many an occasion. The
decor and location, with plenty of parking too, make
it the ideal restaurant for a business meeting or
romantic meal. The food is also of a good
quality, an International menu with more
than a nod to Italy. On our latest visit, my Salmon
and Lemongrass Fishcake starter was tasty but so hot
it burnt the top of my mouth - fortunately not enough
to kill my taste buds. Service was good
although during the course of the night would see
us served by almost every member of staff. A personal
waiter delegated to serve specific tables would have
been far better and resulted in less "somebody's
already taken our order" responses to their questions.
Described
on the menu as 'definately one to try!', the Confit
Duckleg with a Strawberry and Cracked Black Pepper
sauce was slightly overhyped but still tasty and great
value for money at just £12.95 with
2 side portions included in the price. The fact that
we ordered 2 duck portions may have explained the
lengthy wait for it to be served,
however looking at people on other tables around us,
mainly business people, there seemed to be a few other
diners growing impatient too - perhaps they'd also
fallen for the description of the 'definately one
to try' duck. Prices are excellent yet it
is still up there with the smartest restaurants in
town. A few minor changes and it
would certainly become the best restaurant in town.
That said, the view from our office window confirms
it is definitely one of the busiest restaurants
in town so they're obviously doing something
right."

"I
have visited Alberts on several occasions (see review
below) and have never had a reason to complain until
yesterday. Three out of the four dishes were luke
warm and looked like they had been sat about
for a while. One of the steaks was very chewy.
The portion size of the meatballs was far smaller than
I remember and looked dried up. They have also taken
to serving some of their food on black plates which
shows up greasy finger prints due to
the down lighters over the tables. The only highlight
was that they forgot to add a round of drinks to our
bill. I am just gutted that I took my parents there
as a treat because I found the whole meal embarrassing
after biging it up so much"

"I
love eating at Alberts Shed. The staff are always
friendly and helpful and the food is
always spot on. I just love their poached pear
and roquefort and meatballs. The only thing I would
ask them to change is the background music. Although
its good, it's always the same!"

"Went
here for New Years Eve, fantasic menu
including 3 courses, champagne and a fireworks display,
oh and not forgetting free entry to Dukes 92's new years
party next door! Service was outstanding
and food was out of this world. Waited
a while for our table but considering how busy
a night it was we were quite impressed, our waiter for
the night showed us to a lounge area where we were opened
a bottle of wine whilst we waited, so no harm done!
Would book again, worth every penny!"

"Great
restaurant, friendly staff very attentive.
There was a very nice atmosphere which
was lively, laid back and chilled. The food
was really nice and my duck was cooked
to perfection! As was my Fillet Steak Skewer
with noodles. Also used my Highlife card which I heard
about via this site! So got two meals for the price
of one saving about £25, excellent"
