Dimitris
Tapas Bar & Taverna Manchester - reader comments

"I
visited with 2 friends from a nearby TV company who send a lot of
business to Dimitris, we'd not met up for a while & were looking
forward to an elegant dining experience, boy did we pick the wrong
place. Mr Glum the waiter showed us to a table, we ordered & the
starters came, part way through the starters the main course
came too we asked why they had been brought it. We were told
that we could only have the table for 2hours???? We told him that
we had not booked for only 2 hrs, and would not have come if that
was the case, he said we should have been told when booking. He took
the mains away only to return the second we put the last starter in
our mouth, when he repeated the process again with the desserts
we asked to see the Manager, who apologised for the "oversight"
but affirmed what the waiter had said. We dug in our heels & refused
to vacate the table in 2 hours & ate & drank at our leasure.
What kind of new practice is this? it is pure greed & professional
suicide, how can guests choose to race against the clock with their
dinner, which they are paying top whack for? if it were a takeaway
or greasy spoon you could understand it, but a renowned restaurant
no way! They will lose a lot of business especially as two friendly
& welcoming Tapas restaurants El Rincon & El Hacienda, with
no table restrictions better food & cheaper are only a stones
throw away, Dimitris loss will be their gain."

"Unfriendly
staff, good to average food. Surroundings
were good, but these were spoiled when our waitress gave our table
to another customer (for no good reason?) and plonked us next to the
door with no apology or explanation. Nice. Felt very unwelcome.
Won't bother visiting again."

"The
Chicken and Bacon Salad was very nice although it
was a bit greasy - swimming in vinegary sauce - At
£9.45 for a salad, it was also too expensive"

"The
Chicken Caesar Pitta was gorgeous - highly recommended
and worth returning for alone. On the flip side, prices aren't
cheap and service doesn't exactly come with a smile."

"The
food was awful and having told the waiter when he
was collecting our plates that we were disappointed, he showed not
a jot of interest and then had the audacity to assume that our change
was a tip. We had to ask for our change before leaving
- this place is over rated and doesn't deserve the custom
it gets. Won't be returning and will recommended to our friends
that they avoid at all costs."

"Wonderful
setting - inside the old Campfield Market Arcade on the edge
of Castlefield - always packed and great choice of booze.
The food however is somewhat overpriced - especially
the tapas, which at £6.95 for many of the dishes is hard to
justify. If it's tapas or meze you're after, there's many better options
elsewhere in town, especially with so many Spanish, Turkish and Dim
Sum alternatives serving better food at half the price."
