Tandoori Indian Restaurant Manchester - reader comments

"This
is only one of two Indian restaurants in the country that we have
visted that can really deliver foodwise. As it happens, and I don't
believe this is any coincidence, the friendliness and warmth
of its staff is also impeccable. It has by far the best vegetarian
menu on the Curry Mile. We opted for the Hindistani Thali and it was
as good as many we have tried in India. The restaurant is small but
the atmsophere is comfortable and relaxing and lively
enough. We have been back several times when in the area and have
tried a variety of veg dishes including a wonderful Dosa. Fantastic
people, fantasitc food, fantastic place!"

"Went
to the Punjab on the 22nd of December and it was pretty quiet, about
4 tables free, yet it's a small restaurant to start with. This was
our 2nd visit and we were seated next to the door, which didn't cause
too much problems. Service was good, very keen in
fact. One waiter was that interested in if we were enjoying
our meal, we could of been a party of 3 instead of 2. Starters:
Vegetable Samosa - piping hot, fresh and the best I have tasted. Main:
Chicken Jalfrezi and Chicken Handi - Spot on, piping and fresh and
full of flavour. Would recommend the Handi. Everything else was top
notch. Had to wait about 5 mins to grab the attention of
waiters for the bill but the food is one of the best I have
tasted on The Mile and is a definite favourite. To summarise,
a small, quaint restaurant, serving some of the best food, decor
is not the best, but I dont go for the wallpaper, just the
food, and its Bloody Good, and reasonably priced!"

"Was
OK but I didn't appreciate the old man of the family constantly
looking over whilst we were eating - rather off putting!"

"I'm
always sceptical when I read rave reviews of Wilmslow Road restaurants
- generally the decor is tatty, prices are high, food quality poor,
toilets disgusting and the service often abrupt, which can be forgiven
for the number of drunken and abusive customers they normally have
to deal with. However curiosity always makes me pay a visit. Sadly
Punjab Tandoori fell short of the quality of Akbaars, Lights Of India,
EastZEast and Shimla Pinks in the city centre. I opted for the Punjab
mix which was tasty but nothing special. The usual
soggy poppadoms, greasy naan bread and over-priced menu that I've
come to expect on the curry mile were present, as were the toilets,
that are in need of an upgrade. That said, the staff were
friendly and compared to the competition on this
stretch it would still be recommended."

"My
wife and I arrived here at 11pm after seeing a concert on 20/07. We
chose this specific restaurant due to previous reviews on this site.
Although the food was as good as expected, what we
liked the most was the very friendly and efficient service.
They were very pleased when I showed them a print-out of their restaurant
reviews off this site. There was a lively birthday party going on
when we arrived, but they dealt with it very responsibly so they,
and the rest of the diners, had a good time. To round off a great
evening (concert and our first visit to the "curry mile"),
they ordered us a taxi which was at the door within 2 minutes."
