Shahenshah
Indian Restaurant Manchester - reader comments

"After
a horrendous experience at the re-opened Shaandaar earlier in the
evening (where we had to leave without touching our food), the Shahenshah
was the restaurant we chose. None of our party had been here before
but it looked welcoming from the outside and staff
were ready at the door to show you to a table. Our order was taken
promptly by a friendly waiter. When the food arrived
we all tucked in. Food was lovely and fresh, portions large
and great value for money. There was enough rice to feed
an army and the naan breads and chapatis were lovely fresh
and hot. We were given complementary coffee
after the meal which was a nice touch. Would recommend this restaurant
as a good all rounder. Good atmosphere too." -

"We
have been going there for the last 15 yrs and have taken lots of friends
over the years. The children love going there and never feel uncomfortable
with taking them with us. Its a great atmosphere.
Hope to be going for another 15 yrs"

"First
came here with a friend a while back, I've tried a few places on the
Curry Mile but this place is by far the best I've been to. Really
friendly and a warm welcome, great food,
and decent prices. What more could you ask for. I've
been here a few times now and the waiters & manager recognise
me, which is nice. I'd recommend this place to anyone, It's one
of the best restaurants on the curry mile"

"Was
impressed with staff, thought the food was
great and I love my curries! I would recommend to anyone
who likes a good feed as you get a lot in your portions.
I will be coming again, don't you worry about that. The Shahenshah
to me is what honey is to a bee..... addictive"

"We
were recommended this restaurant by a colleague, it is excellent.
I have taken friends and family on many occassions and never had a
problem. Raffiq always makes us welcome and we always get a dish on
the house or some drinks knocked off the bill. They have just renewed
the carpet which was a minor complaint before as it was past its sell
by date but that cured it is spot on. We look forward ro our next
visit hopefully in the next week or two"

"The
food was amazing and, like the review below, all
the staff were really friendly and helpful execept our waiter
- He was very serious and not friendly at all, almost confrontational
when we tried to correct him on an order he'd taken down wrong. All
in all - it would have been a superb experience if we had
had one of the other waiters"

"Now I must start with saying I hate Rusholme - gangs of youths
in hoodies hanging around, boy racers tearing up the strip in their
father's cars and restaurants serving poor quality food, brown lettuce
and waiters treating every customer like the pissheads that normally
frequent these restaurants late at night. If you want a good Indian,
you need to go to the city centre or mill towns like Rawtenstall
or Burnley. At 11pm on a Monday night after the football though,
it was the only place open to eat and after reading rave reviews
of Shahenshah on this website, I thought I'd check it out.
I have
to say, I was very impressed - the food
was very tasty, the lamb sizzler, a dish I'd return to
try again and the decor was modern, bright and inviting,
unusual for the Curry Mile. The only thing that let the
place down was the manager/owner(?) A very intimidating
character, he seemed to begrudge serving us. I asked for
advice to try and differentiate between the three lamb sizzler dishes
on offer - I'm still none the wiser - his tone, very aggressive
and blunt, was also apparent when he served other customers. He
forgot to bring the starter I ordered and then started arguing with
me when I queried it, repeatedly accusing me of never ordering it
in the first place. Fortunately another waiter butted in (over-ruling
his boss?) and told me not to worry, he'd get it for me now. And
that's where lies the problem in me reviewing this place. The
3 waiters working last night were all very friendly, smiley and
helpful. The manager (or the one choosing to wearing a
white shirt rather than the black uniform) was incredible, bringing
the whole experience of visiting here down. I'd like to go away
remembering the excellent food, good price, great waiters and lively
atmosphere - instead I come away remembering an arguement I choose
not to get involved in. Sack the boss and this would be
one of the best Asian restaurants in Manchester!"

"Very
enjoyable evening, very polite staff and friendly atmosphere.
Didn't really have to ask for anything extra, it was offered. We've
known Rafik for ten years in other Rusholme restaurants and he is
still as friendly and attentive as we've always known. The management
ensured they spoke to us before we left. Great evening!"

"Service
was amazing, the waiters were all attentive and even the
greeter on the door wasn't pushy like some in Rusholme and he even
shook my hand on the way out! The food is to die for,
as I have never tasted a curry like it before! Make sure you go
for the works and have starters, I can highly recommend the vegs
samosas and bharjis. The naans are the best on curry mile
too, we've even considered just going in for the naans
to take home! By far one of the best restaurants in curry
mile if not the best!"

"We
were among 6 in the whole joint at lunchtime, very good waiter
who tried to ensure we had what we wanted even though chef wasn't
there. I'd like to try at evening time 'cos i bet they are really
good. Waiter was a really friendly sincere guy."

"The
most easy going and relaxing place on the 'mile'.
Superb service, excellent food and very friendly staff.
We have been going there every Friday for the last 10 years and can
see no reason to change!"
