Carluccio's
Restaurant Trafford Centre Manchester - reader comments

"The
lasagne didn't have any Bechemel sauce in it and the liver was overcooked
and too dry. The starters were OK: the Fried Rice Balls were
perhaps a little bland, but the Mushroon and Bacon
Soup was fine. We decided against trying any dessert. Overall, we
were disappointed with Mr Carluccio!"

"What
was this Carlucci bloke thinking of, opening a restaurant that looks
like a fast food joint in the Trafford Centre. There's never
going to be any atmosphere in this place, it's a shopping mall for
God's sake! I would have thought that they would have opened in Manchester
City Centre, but this looks like a really cheap option, not
a dinner destination but a meal after shopping. The food
is OK, nothing special and I would discuss the freshness
or frozen nature of its portion controlled offerings!"

"We've
just made our 6th visit to Carluccio's in as many weeks (guess you
can tell we're fans then!) We have enjoyed superb food &
service on each visit - very much looking forward to our
next one!"

"The
staff were obviously proud of their restaurant and were extremely
motivated to ensure your food was right. I have visited twice now,
with my compliments to the chef on both occasions.
The food was extremely fresh and tasted divine!!
Unfortunately with the venue being the Trafford Centre, you
will never get a romantic atmosphere...but then again, Italian
restaurants aren't supposed to be quiet!!!"

"I'm
a huge fan of Chaophraya, Choice, Sapporo and Akbars and agree with
Manchester Restaurants that these are THE best restaurants in town.
So when I noticed the arrival of Carluccio's in the top 5, I knew
I would not be disappointed with a visit. My only problem was it
didn't seem right driving to the Trafford Centre specifically for
a meal and to be honest, I never thought I'd say this, but
it wouldn't put me off returning. My starter, the
Bagna Cauda was like a vegetable chowder fondue - absolutely
delicious! Unfortunately, there wasn't enough carrots, celery
and peppers to dip in it so I had to order one of their gorgeous bread
baskets to finish off dipping. The main course, the Mushroom Risotto
from the Special's Board, was the best dish I've ever had
in an Italian restaurant - and that's saying something
as I have a holiday home in Tuscany! I would return
especially just for that one dish alone so I hope they don't
remove it from the 'specials'. The service was superb
- real Italian waiters and waitresses and the
price was incredibly cheap for food of this quality. On the
negative side, it's not obvious what you do on arrival
- there's a shop, a cafe and a restaurant all sharing the same area.
I wasn't met by a greeter on arrival so had to ask if I could sit
anywhere I wanted and whether I had to order at the counter or, as
it turned out, at the table. My only real moan about the place though
- and it's a big one in fairness - is exactly the reason I had reservations
about visiting. The music from the bar/restaurant next door
drowned out the traditional Italian music that Carluccio's
were playing and the restaurant seriously lacked intimacy
as it was open plan in the huge new food hall. It wouldn't
stop me returning though and it quite rightly would
make the Top 10 restaurants in Manchester as you suggest,
better than any other Italian in the region. All
in all though... Food 5*, Price 5*, Service 5*, Location 0*"

"When it was announced there was to be a Carluccio's Caffe in the
Trafford Centre's multi-million pound new food hall, food critics
in Manchester got excited. It would be Antonio Carlucci's
first restaurant in the North. It has to be said, the food
is amazing, incredibly good value for money
and the service superb! My only problem is
the location - The Trafford Centre is hardly a place you
would associate the best Italian restaurant in Manchester to be; its
open plan dining area draws no distinction from that
of McDonalds and KFC and as a result it's the not the type of venue
you'd book a table in advance for. Pity really as the pasta is worth
it!" -
