Yang Sing Chinese Restaurant Manchester - reader comments
"The food is good and the place is smart.
Value for money is fine but I agree wholeheartedy
with Ian from Warrington's comments (below) about the service charge.
They add 10% to your bill automatically but then seek a gratuity
by leaving the credit card slip open for you to add a tip. When I
questioned it, I was told that 'the service charge doesn't go to the
staff, it goes to the owners'. I think that's very sharp practice.
I tip well, often more than 10%, when I get good service but I expect
the staff to get the tips. If the owners want to make an extra 10%
they should be honest about it and just increase their prices, rather
than sneaking it in by the back door!! It made me feel bad refusing
to add a tip for the waiters, but if everybody did the same thing
the staff might persuade the management to change their bad practice"

"They couldn't wait to get rid of us, as soon as we arrived they gave
us a time we had to be out of there by! We were sitting so close to
other tables we felt uncomfortable and like sardines,
we could over hear everyones conversations as we were so close together!
My friend had to wait 10 minutes as the waiter had ordered and brought
the wrong meal for her! In the mean time mine went cold as we waited
for hers! We then ate all our rice and chips as we were so hungry!
We had no complimentary dish brought to us whilst we waited for the
food to eventually arrive!! The waiter was unhelpful and abrupt.
When the food did arrive the waiter spilt it all over the table and
a little on my friend, she had to actually say to him to stop it as
the food was going to spill all over her. It was all over the table
cloth and they didn't change it, it was horrible. I wanted my friend
to complain but she didn't want to make a fuss! But I wasn't happy
with the service, food or over all feel of the place. I wouldn't go
there again!" -

"My friend wanted sea bass. They told him the only way he could have
it was to have the £28 banquet which he agreed to. After his
three starters arrived, they informed him that they had'nt got any
which we found very disappointing. Two of us ordered
fillet beef which we found to be chewy and tough.
We complained and got a discount. This was a birthday treat and after
a lovely day in Manchester we had a disappointing evening" -

"I'm a regular visitor here, because it's always very reliable.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Manchester.
One big gripe: they add 10% automatically to the bill and
then leave the credit card open for a gratuity to be added.
They know exactly what they are doing - and it leaves a nasty
taste in the mouth. Very short sighted!!!!!" -
