Grado
is celebrity chef Paul Heathcote's latest business venture in the
heart of Manchester - a £1m traditional Spanish Tapas restaurant
offering an eclectic mix of regional and new wave Spanish food. |
Paul,
who owns 15 restaurants across the North West, decided to adopt
a Spanish theme after spending time in the country and identifying
a gap in the British restaurant market for “something a little
different". |
Paul
said: “Having spent time in Spain, I have identified that
the country has some of the most exiting food in the world. Spain
is actually one of the leads in Europe as far as having the largest
number of restaurants with Michelin Stars". |
And
with Grado in Piccadilly, Paul is promising something “really
exciting.” |
He
said: “When people think of Spanish, many just think of Tapas
and a bottle of Spanish plonk but there is so much more to be discovered.
Grado provides that special something with lots of unusual dishes.
Many of the Spanish wines which we will be serving are also relatively
unknown." |
Paul
has taken many ideas from the Spain, and in particular San Sebastian
- the Tapas centre of the country - and brought them to Grado in
New York Street. |
Grado,
which has 80 covers, provides customers with the opportunity to
watch the chefs as they prepare the food with an open kitchen design. |
Spain
is a country with great produce and nearly everything served at
Grado has been imported from Spain, even all of the crockery and
all of the furnishings, providing customers with a true Spanish
experience when they visit Grado. The 100 bin-wine list, 16 of which
by the glass, are also 100% Spanish. |
|
|
Open
all day, Grado serves tapas, hams, paellas, spit roast meat, grilled
fish and clay baked flatbreads in a smart, casual & modern environment
with an atmospheric theatre style kitchen. |
Tapas
is available both at the bar, cooked directly in front of you as you
sip a glass of sherry or one of the many imported Spanish beers, and
in the stunning restaurant itself. |
There's
also an a la carte menu to choose from boasting such delights as Paella,
Bomba Baked Rice, Arroz Negro, Scallops a la Plancha, Hake with Clams,
and Braised Rabbit with Rioja. |
For
meat lovers, the Daily Roast from the Charcoal Oven offers a cut of
the day, with the likes of Roast Beef, Suckling Pig, Roast Lamb, Roast
Chicken, Roast Pork, Roast Duck and Baked Roast Salmon in Cornmeal
Pastry on daily rotation. |

"Having
already ventured away from his signature Lancashire dishes, to
be found at his Longridge and Simply Heathcote restaurants, with
the Italian Olive Press chain, it was interesting to hear of Paul
Heathcote's plans to offer tapas and Spanish cuisine with Grado.
From our first visit we can confirm it was a journey we're glad
he has taken.
The
building is very impressive to say the least. The huge quality
wine collection that greets you at the door hints at what you're
about to recieve. The decor is plush, a nice array of orange and
brown and a welcoming layout that allows you to choose the less
formal tapas bar, complete with its Teppanyaki-style kitchen,
or a more formal a la carte sit down meal.
We
opted for the impressive tapas, the Mushroom Croquetas, Octopus
with Lemon Oil, and Pinchitos Morunos all being highlights worth
returning for alone. The 100 bin wine list (16 available by the
glass) is impressive but a special mention has to go to the Sherries.
The La Gitana Manzanilla was gorgeously crisp whilst the Manzanilla
Pasada was delightful and certainly worth adding to any order.
The
service was very friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. In
a city with plenty of Tapas restaurants on offer, Grado is likely
to stand out from the competition and be a big success. We will
be certainly be returning soon!" -
